On Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at a Capitol Hill luncheon in Washington,
D.C., federal employees from across the country were honored as
finalists for the 2009 Service to America Medals.
Their stories illustrate the dedication of federal workers across America who do extraordinary work. Whether it’s the continuing effort to protect our homeland, safeguard our health, or preserve the soundness of our economy, their work directly impacts the quality of our lives.
This year’s 30 finalists include public servants who boast achievements in fields including alternative energy, home foreclosure relief, physics, medical research, hubble science, the presidential transition, homelessness, the prosecution of terrorists and international development.
The 2009 finalists come from more than 20 federal agencies including the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Treasury and Veteran Affairs; the Central Intelligence Agency, Government Accountability Office, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, General Services Administration, Social Security Administration, U.S. Agency for International Development and NASA.
